Platform Engineer (Kubernetes Platform)

Employment type: W‑2 only (no C2C/third-party)

Contract Details

  • Duration: May 27, 2026 – May 26, 2027
  • Location: Remote
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday
  • Compensation: $100/hour
  • Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Eligibility region: Candidates must be based in California, Texas, or Florida

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end Kubernetes cluster lifecycle: upgrades, patching, scaling, and capacity planning (on-prem and cloud)
  • Administer and troubleshoot Kubernetes using k3s, RKE2, GKE, and EKS
  • Implement and maintain Cilium CNI and enforce secure network policies for multi-tenant environments
  • Troubleshoot Kubernetes networking issues (connectivity, DNS, service-level problems)
  • Debug production issues including control plane failures, node problems, DNS, and service connectivity
  • Manage etcd health, backups, and disaster recovery processes
  • Partner with datacenter/network teams during infrastructure changes and maintenance windows
  • Support dev teams by reviewing deployment manifests and assisting with workload troubleshooting
  • Contribute to internal platform tooling, documentation, and runbooks
  • Apply Kubernetes security best practices (RBAC, Pod Security Standards, secrets management)

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years relevant experience
  • Hands-on Kubernetes administration for on-prem environments (k3s/RKE2 or similar)
  • Cilium CNI (or equivalent container networking)
  • Experience supporting GKE and/or EKS
  • Strong Linux and networking fundamentals (routing, DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot production Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with GitOps (ArgoCD and/or Flux)
  • Scripting/automation skills: Bash, Python, or Go
  • Collaborative, production-focused working style

Preferred Qualifications

  • Go experience for platform tooling/operator development
  • CKA or CKS certification
  • Experience with BGP, IPv6, or service mesh
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform or Ansible
  • Experience supporting internal developer platforms
  • Familiarity with GitHub/GitLab workflows
