Platform Engineer (Mobile apps)

Role Overview

Senior Platform Engineer (Mobile Apps) focused on keeping mobile apps healthy, current, and resilient. This is a 100% remote role for candidates based in the United States or Canada, with optional in-person collaboration for San Francisco candidates.

Responsibilities

• Own the release pipeline: build and maintain systems that move code from merge to production reliably across iOS and Android with minimal manual intervention.
• Advance release automation: work toward fully automated, push-button deploys and rollbacks with Slack-posted status.
• Strengthen observability & monitoring: expand instrumentation, define alerting thresholds, and build domain-level SLA dashboards across React Native and Android, including offline-first scenarios.
• Improve CI/CD speed and reliability: reduce build times, improve E2E test stability, and integrate feature flag automation; enhance testing infrastructure.
• Scale observability practices: create dashboards, runbooks, and instrumentation patterns engineers can reuse and extend.
• Keep the platform healthy: manage React Native and dependency updates, certificate management, App Store / Google Play compliance, and MDM tooling as the fleet grows.
• Leverage AI for automations across release and distribution workflows.
• Help build the team: interview candidates, refer strong engineers, and shape engineering culture.

Requirements

• 5–9 years experience as a mobile platform or mobile infrastructure engineer.
• Experience owning release pipelines, CI/CD, or observability for a mobile app in production.
• Track record reducing manual steps and optimizing mobile release/deployment processes.
• Product-led company experience close to end users.
• Mobile-specific experience with Swift, Kotlin, or React Native (not purely general backend infra).
• Hands-on observability tooling in a mobile context (Datadog, Firebase, or equivalent).
• React Native experience is a strong plus.
• Buildkite experience.
• Authorized and located to work in the United States or Canada.
