About the role
Role Overview
Platform Engineer III is a technical contributor for the team that manages Availity’s core integration platform for U.S. healthcare systems. You will help run and evolve the API Gateway integration platforms that deliver services end-to-end for providers and health plans.
Responsibilities
- Manage and evolve API Gateway integration platforms at enterprise scale
- Oversee tooling and support for intelligent, automated integrations with flexibility, reliability, and operational excellence
- Analyze and refine API definition standards and enable innovation across the API ecosystem
- Guide and mentor junior engineers
- Bridge infrastructure and development teams to align roadmaps and goals
Requirements
- 4–6 years of relevant technical/business experience in IT systems delivery, operations, and support (preferably healthcare or high-transaction environments)
- 3+ years of experience implementing and managing IT systems
- Hands-on experience with:
- API Gateway management at scale
- HTTP integration and API authentication frameworks
- SSL certificates (validation, encryption, authentication, signature)
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible, Helm
- AWS services: VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS, Istio
- Observability/monitoring tools (preferably Splunk and New Relic)
- Ability to lead and guide technical teams
- Strong communication skills with ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical SaaS systems
- Familiarity with API management/gateway software (preferably Tyk) and COTS product management
- Background in metrics-driven reliability engineering (e.g., SLOs/SLIs, error budgets)
- Scripting/programming experience (Go, JavaScript, Python, etc.)
- Experience debugging connectivity issues in complex enterprise environments and collaborating with customer technical contacts
