About the role
Role Overview
As a Level 3 Platform Engineer (Hybrid Infrastructure) at Smarsh, you will design, deliver, and operate infrastructure automation and platform tooling. You’ll work independently on complex projects, own Kubernetes platform operations, and lead on-premises migration toward Smarsh’s cloud-native (“One Smarsh”) platform services.
Responsibilities
- Conceive, deliver, and operate infrastructure automation and platform tooling across Smarsh’s on-premises environment.
- Own Kubernetes platform operations, including:
- Cluster health
- Workload deployments
- Scaling
- Incident response
- Lead migration projects moving on-premises workloads toward One Smarsh (cloud-native) platform services.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
- Drive observability improvements.
- Support security and compliance requirements.
Requirements
- GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines at scale.
- Production experience with VMware vSphere.
- Infrastructure-as-code experience, specifically Ansible and/or Terraform in production.
- Linux systems administration strong skills (Ubuntu).
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience (cluster operations, Helm, workload troubleshooting).
- Self-directed ability to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
- Comfortable working in evolving environments where tooling/processes mature.
- Strong communication with cross-functional stakeholders.
- 4–7 years in platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure engineering.
Nice to Have
- Regulated/ compliance-sensitive infrastructure background (e.g., financial services, healthcare).
- Experience with VMware Kubernetes Service (VKS) or other VMware-native Kubernetes platforms.
- Python scripting for automation/tooling.
- AWS cloud infrastructure experience.
- Observability tooling: Datadog, Splunk, or ELK.
- CI/CD tooling experience: Jenkins or Concourse.
- GitOps CD tools: ArgoCD, Flux, or similar.
- Prior on-call rotation experience with defined SLA structure.
