Platform Engineer

Role Overview

Platform Engineer on Five9’s Cloud Operations team. You’ll help shape the next-generation cloud platform by building infrastructure, developer tooling, and developer experience that supports Five9’s cloud contact center at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain public and private cloud infrastructure focused on reliability, scalability, and developer productivity.
• Build and maintain internal developer environment tooling (primarily Go and Python) to accelerate engineering workflows and reduce SDLC friction.
• Drive automation initiatives to improve availability, reduce operational toil, and increase efficiency across the cloud platform.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on architecture and implementation decisions; contribute technical depth.
• Monitor production and development environments, proactively identifying and resolving issues before customer impact.
• Participate in incident response, apply SRE practices, and drive continuous improvement to lower MTTD and MTTR.
• Help define and evolve the platform engineering roadmap as the infrastructure scales.

Requirements

• 4+ years software development life cycle experience (preferably in Agile/Scrum environments).
• 3+ years public cloud experience (GCP or AWS).
• 3+ years systems and networking experience.
• Strong proficiency with Kubernetes, Helm, GKE, and Docker.
• ArgoCD and GitOps workflows experience is essential.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Python and/or scripting languages; Go experience is a strong plus.
• Terraform experience (Infrastructure as Code).
• CI/CD tooling experience including GitLab, Jenkins, Spinnaker, or similar.
• Familiarity with config management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Experience with incident management processes and SRE best practices.
• Ability to scope, prioritize, and execute complex infrastructure projects with minimal oversight.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with SIP telephony (e.g., FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, Kamailio, WebRTC).

Location / Work Model

• Fully remote if residing outside 50 miles of the San Ramon office.
• Hybrid (3 days/week: Mon, Wed, Thu) for candidates within 50 miles of San Ramon.
