About the role
Role overview
Senior Platform Engineer (Azure or AWS) for a 12+ month renewable contract with 100% remote work in the EST time zone. You will design, build, troubleshoot, and maintain platform infrastructure to ensure performance, reliability, security, and resiliency across cloud and on-premises systems.
Responsibilities
- Maintain platform hardware, software, and network capabilities aligned to business needs and standards
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to continuously improve platforms
- Manage and configure DevOps tools (e.g., API Gateway, Terraform) to support organizational processes
- Collaborate with DevOps, Application, Architect, and Database Engineers to update and maintain environments
- Build and maintain automated/orchestrated fulfillment mechanisms to accelerate delivery of platform services
- Coordinate across teams supporting the target platform to ensure smooth operations
- Identify and mitigate security threats and comply with security compliance requirements
- Develop and implement security and resiliency policies, standards, and procedures
- Produce high-level design documentation as required
- Conduct technical research to support user requests for new or modified systems and problem resolution
- Manage vendor relationships for design docs, platform changes, and related modifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field; or 9+ years equivalent Platform Engineer/related experience
- 9+ years platform engineering and infrastructure experience (strong focus on containerization)
- Strong hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Rancher for orchestration/cluster management
- Proven experience managing cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Experience with monitoring and log management tools such as Nagios, Splunk, ELK
- Proven experience developing and implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies
- Scripting experience: Python, PowerShell, Bash
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management: Ansible, Chef, Terraform
Preferred
- Azure Solutions Architect or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
- CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator)
- Platform runtime expertise including NGINX ingress controllers, TLS/certificate lifecycle (e.g., cert-manager), and secrets management (e.g., HashiCorp Vault)
- Observability tools experience: Sysdig, Fluentd, Elasticsearch (monitoring/log analysis/CVE scanning)
- Familiarity with GitOps practices and tools
