About the role

Role Overview

Mid-level Platform Engineer on the Atorus Research engineering team, responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the company’s cloud platform. You will work with senior engineers on complex architecture while collaborating with development, data science, and security teams to deliver high-quality clinical data science in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

Platform Design & Architecture

Design and evolve the Atorus cloud platform (Kubernetes architecture, networking, storage, compute provisioning)
Implement and enforce infrastructure standards, patterns, and guardrails
Evaluate and adopt new tools/technologies to improve reliability, security, and developer productivity
Build repeatable and resilient cloud environments for internal and client-facing use cases

Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering

Own and operate cloud infrastructure across AWS, including Kubernetes, networking, databases, and access controls (with plans to expand providers)
Handle Kubernetes lifecycle tasks: upgrades, node provisioning, security hardening, observability
Implement GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines
Manage in-cluster service mesh configuration for security and performance
Provision and standardize cloud resources using reusable templates and design patterns

Security & Compliance

Support platform-level security hardening across application and data layers to meet regulatory requirements
Manage IAM integrations: OIDC, SAML, LDAP and fine-grained authorization
Build/maintain RBAC policies and application/user access controls
Support vulnerability management with scanning and remediation tracked to defined SLAs
Implement/maintain audit logging, monitoring, and alerting
Assist with auditor evidence collection and operational documentation

Data Science Platform Support

Administer and evolve the Posit Professional suite (Posit Workbench, Posit Connect, Posit Package Manager)
Manage storage integrations including NetApp FSx ONTAP and EFS (ACL management, HA configurations)
Own platform improvement initiatives end-to-end (design through delivery)

Developer Experience & Collaboration

Partner with engineering and operations to implement CI/CD, deployment standards, and onboarding
Provide infrastructure/application guidance to engineering and data science teams
Maintain technical documentation and runbooks
Translate stakeholder requirements into scalable infrastructure solutions

Requirements

Mid-level platform engineering experience with ownership across design, development, and operations
Strong working knowledge of Kubernetes-based cloud infrastructure on AWS
Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and platform reliability/observability practices
Capability to support security hardening and compliance needs in regulated environments
Familiarity with IAM concepts and authentication/authorization integrations (OIDC/SAML/LDAP) and RBAC

Nice-to-haves (implied)

Experience supporting data science platforms (Posit Professional suite)
Experience with service mesh, vulnerability management, and audit logging/monitoring
Experience with storage systems such as NetApp FSx ONTAP and AWS EFS
