About the role
Role: Plant Fitter
Working out of the Townsville depot, you will maximise machine availability by maintaining, servicing, repairing, and performing approved modifications on Queensland Rail’s resurfacing plant fleet.
Responsibilities
- Carry out effective and efficient preventative maintenance
- Use troubleshooting methods to repair plant breakdowns
- Ensure work complies with Queensland Rail policies and safe work procedures
- Prepare and provide plant maintenance documentation and reports
What you’ll work on
- Ballast regulators, tamper-liners, and other essential civil plant equipment
Team & coverage
- Part of a dedicated team of 14 Plant Fitters and 1 Electrician
- Coverage across a diverse region from Rockhampton to Cairns, Townsville to Mt Isa, including Croydon to Normanton line
Requirements
- Mechanical Trade Certificate
- Current manual drivers’ licence
- Ability to travel and work throughout regional Queensland
- Reliable, safety-focused approach and pride in workmanship
Benefits / Conditions
- Permanent position
- Salary $95,000 plus 12.75% superannuation (base rate with penalties)
- Travel within roster is on paid work time (accommodation provided + daily travel allowance)
- PPE, tools, phone & shared vehicle supplied
- Paid opportunities to upskill while completing Certificate IV Engineering
- Opportunity to obtain MR & HR driver’s licence and CAT3 Driver qualification
Roster / Hours
- Two rosters across the region:
- 9 on / 5 off while away (traveling Tuesday; working through the weekend; returning following Wednesday)
- 9 day fortnight locally (Mon–Fri, then Mon–Thu)
- Flexibility to switch rosters when needed
- Meet at the depot and travel together from there on paid time
