Payments Risk Analyst II

Role Overview

Payments Risk Analyst II on the Risk & Fraud team (Consumer & Business group). You’ll own the identification and mitigation of fraud risk across Coinbase’s fiat payment rails, specifically ACH, protecting both the business and the customer experience.

What You’ll Do

• Own end-to-end risk controls for ACH payments, scaling fraud prevention as the business grows.
• Detect and mitigate fraudulent deposit activity using targeting logic for bad actors and high-risk behavior.
• Perform quantitative analysis of fraud performance:
  • Measure precision/recall of rules
  • Assess financial impact of decisions
  • Present tradeoffs with data-backed recommendations to leadership
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Growth, Data Science, Risk ML, and Engineering to iterate risk strategies, including moving from heuristic rules to model-driven and synchronous friction controls.
• Investigate anomalous customer/transaction behavior, identify monitoring gaps, and close them before they result in losses.

Required Skills & Experience

• 4+ years in risk, fraud, or payments operations, including 2+ years focused on payments fraud prevention in fintech/e-commerce/financial services.
• 2+ years using SQL to query and analyze large datasets; ability to scope and execute analytics projects end-to-end.
• Experience using identity-provider data and fraud-detection tooling to implement and tune risk controls.
• Ability to measure financial impact of fraud decisions and communicate to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of ACH processing and NACHA rules.
• Responsible use of generative AI, with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation & Location

• Remote (USA-ready); remote-first with quarterly in-person “surges”.
• Base salary range (excludes equity/bonus): $135,320 — $159,200 USD.
