Nuuly Senior Software Engineer

Role Overview

Nuuly is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Technology team. You’ll help mature a cloud-based microservices platform into a stable, scalable, and robust backbone for upcoming product innovations.

Responsibilities

• Produce architectural proposals and participate in feature/platform evolution decision-making.
• Collaborate with the product team to design solutions and inform product decisions via technical feasibility analysis.
• Mentor junior engineers through code review, pair programming, and design discussions.
• Deliver the full lifecycle of deployable features: design, code, testing, configuration, documentation, deployment, and support.
• Improve reliability by contributing to operational guidelines, participating in incident response, and running post-mortems.
• Enforce and evolve development methodologies; proactively identify improvements in codebase, tooling, and processes.
• Work with QA and Platform Engineering to keep integrated testing environments unblocked.
• Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams on integration approaches and system constraints.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of software engineering experience, including about 2 years of senior-level ownership (design/projects) and cross-team coordination.
• Operational knowledge of server-side object-oriented languages; JVM languages preferred (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Scala). Other languages like Python, Go, Node/TypeScript are considered.
• Comfort discussing microservices, distributed systems design, streaming data, messaging, and database design patterns.
• Strong testing mindset: test-driven development and building reliable systems.
• Proficiency using AI tools for code generation, debugging, and documentation.
• Ability to ramp up quickly on an existing codebase and toolset.
• Ability to lead technical discussions, propose solutions, and communicate effectively across functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Expertise with RESTful APIs and operating microservices in production.
• Experience designing and integrating Kubernetes services with cloud platform APIs (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure) with a focus on zero-downtime deployments.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and other relational/non-relational databases.
