About the role
Role Overview
Frontend Lead Engineer Intern (20 hours/week, Remote, 3 months) Sports Excitement is seeking a Frontend Lead Engineer to own the architecture and development of scalable, maintainable frontend systems. This role goes beyond building UI and emphasizes systems thinking, initiative, and durable architectural decisions.
Responsibilities
- Lead frontend development using Next.js, React, and TypeScript
- Design and implement scalable UI architecture (not just individual screens)
- Build responsive, production-quality interfaces with Tailwind CSS
- Integrate frontend systems with REST APIs in a maintainable way
- Define and improve patterns for state management, component structure, and data flow
- Handle loading, error, empty states, and edge cases
- Identify performance bottlenecks and apply practical optimizations
- Improve component reusability, maintainability, and consistency
- Proactively address technical debt, architectural weaknesses, and process inefficiencies
- Propose improvements to frontend standards, folder structure, and engineering workflow
- Collaborate with backend, product, and design stakeholders to translate requirements into frontend systems
Required Qualifications
- Strong React fundamentals
- Strong experience with Next.js
- Strong experience with TypeScript
- Experience integrating with REST APIs
- Strong understanding of responsive design
- At least one substantial frontend project demonstrating architectural thinking
- Ability to reason about trade-offs in frontend architecture
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of SSR/CSR/hybrid rendering patterns
- Performance optimization experience in modern React
- Experience designing scalable component systems and folder structures
- Experience improving developer workflows, code organization, and maintainability
- Experience reviewing frontend code and setting consistency standards
- Ability to improve both product and process
Project Requirement (Mandatory)
Submit a frontend project demonstrating:
- API integration
- Clear state management
- Clean and scalable folder structure
- Error handling and edge case coverage
- Responsive design
- Reusable component design
- A README explaining architectural decisions, trade-offs, and key implementation choices
