Multimedia Arch Senior Frontend Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Frontend Engineer for TikTok’s Multimedia Arch Web team, responsible for end-to-end web multimedia experiences. You’ll drive ambitious 0-to-1 AI/LLM initiatives for in-browser capabilities and architect high-performance, scalable multimedia playback systems.

Responsibilities

• 0-to-1 exploration of LLMs/AI Agents/in-browser AI to build client-side features for:
  • quality enhancement
  • highlight extraction
  • video/audio analysis
  • environment awareness
  • using frameworks like ONNX Runtime Web, Transformers.js, and MediaPipe
• Architect and implement scalable multimedia playback systems using:
  • WebCodecs, MSE/EME
  • WebAssembly (WASM)
  • to deliver extreme playback performance
• Build internal platforms and efficiency tools by integrating:
  • LLMs, RAG, and function calling
  • for intelligent troubleshooting assistants, automated on-call systems, and analysis dashboards
• Drive technical excellence: set standards for code quality, performance, and system design; mentor junior engineers; influence technical roadmaps
• Own end-to-end performance of critical multimedia components, including:
  • low-latency streaming
  • ABR logic
  • seamless delivery of DRM-protected content
• Solve complex technical challenges across the stack, from browser rendering (WebGL/WebGPU) to application logic, ensuring robustness and maintainability

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years professional frontend experience; shipped high-impact, large-scale web applications or complex system architecture
• Expert in TypeScript/JavaScript (ES6+), modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React), advanced CSS, and frontend performance optimization
• AI-native mindset; ability to apply AI advancements to deliver business value
• Deep mastery of browser engine internals, rendering pipelines, memory management, and multi-threading (Web Workers)
• Multimedia domain understanding (e.g., video platforms, codecs, video quality optimization, web media player concepts)
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration; able to drive cross-team projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep expertise in multimedia tech stack, including:
  • Web Player, WebCodecs, MSE/EME, WebRTC, Web Audio API,
  • low-latency streaming, ABR, DRM
• Experience designing/building/deploying large-scale AI solutions focused on on-device inference using:
  • ONNX Runtime Web, Transformers.js, MediaPipe, or WebNN
