About the role

Role Overview

As a Motion Designer at Alpaca (full remote), you’ll create modern motion for web and mobile interfaces, from subtle interaction animations to microinteraction systems. Your work will enhance usability, engagement, and clarity, while staying lightweight, performant, and code-ready.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

  • Design motion graphics and interaction animations for web and mobile products.
  • Ensure animations are lightweight, responsive, performant, and suitable for code-driven implementation.
  • Collaborate with product designers and engineering teams to bring UI concepts to life through motion.
  • Develop motion templates, guidelines, and libraries to support a cohesive motion design system.
  • Iterate based on feedback and performance constraints across devices and platforms.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of motion design that is beautiful and performant, with a focus on real-time/code-based implementation (not traditional video exports).
  • Ability to translate motion intent into implementation-ready specifications.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of easing curves, timing, and animation principles.
  • Clear judgment on when motion should be expressive vs. invisible.
  • Experience designing motion for real-time rendering / code-based workflows.
  • 3–7+ years of experience in motion design, product motion, or interactive design.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers and discuss feasibility, performance, and implementation details.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency with tools such as Figma, After Effects, TouchDesigner, or creative coding workflows.
  • Familiarity with design systems and motion guidelines at scale.
  • Portfolio showing modern, fluid motion for digital products (not only video reels).
  • Ability to create lightweight 3D animations or micro-illustrations.
  • Understanding of accessibility considerations in motion design.
  • Passion for detail: timing, easing, cohesion, and subtle “alive” movement.
