Mobile Engineer - React Native

Role overview

Sekai is seeking an AI-native Mobile Engineer to build React Native mobile features for its consumer social platform. The role focuses on shipping core mobile product surfaces, improving performance and quality, and building a fast, polished, mobile-first experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship React Native mobile features end-to-end across the core consumer experience
• Work on high-impact surfaces such as:
  • Feed, discovery, creation, play, sharing
  • Onboarding, retention, user engagement
• Improve mobile app performance, stability, responsiveness, and product quality
• Debug and fix production issues quickly, prioritizing based on user impact
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend, and Growth to deliver shipped mobile experiences
• Integrate React/web-based interactive content into the mobile app when needed
• Use analytics, logs, crash reports, and user feedback to identify and resolve mobile issues
• Use AI tools aggressively for development, debugging, prototyping, testing, and iteration
• Help shape Sekai’s long-term mobile architecture as the product scales

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience (ideally mobile or consumer-facing)
• Strong hands-on experience with React Native
• Proficiency with TypeScript/JavaScript
• Experience shipping production mobile apps on iOS and/or Android
• Strong understanding of mobile architecture concepts:
  • navigation, state management, API integration
  • release cycles and app store deployment
• Product-minded with strong UX focus
• Ability to debug independently and move from issue discovery to shipped fixes
• Highly AI-native, comfortable using modern AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Codex)
• Strong ownership and ability to work in a fast-moving, ambiguous startup environment

Preferred qualifications

• Android native experience (Kotlin/Java/Android SDK/Jetpack Compose)
• Android performance optimization experience (startup time, scrolling performance, memory, crash/ANR, low-end devices)
• Hybrid mobile architecture experience (React Native + native modules, WebView, native bridges)
• Experience with Flutter (especially migrating to or maintaining with React Native)
• Experience with mobile-first consumer/social/UGC/gaming/entertainment/creator/feed products
• Experience with mobile analytics and crash/performance tooling (e.g., Firebase, Amplitude, GA4, Sentry, Datadog, Android-specific tools)
