Mobile Engineer

Role Overview

Allara is hiring a Mobile Engineer to build the native iOS and Android experiences that connect patients to longitudinal women’s healthcare. You’ll own significant parts of the mobile platform end-to-end, working across a shared architecture spanning both native codebases.

Location / Work Model

• Hybrid (NYC): at least 3 days/week in the NYC office, with flexibility as needed.

Your Impact

• Design, build, and ship features across native iOS and Android apps using a shared mobile architecture.
• Develop deep expertise in your primary platform (iOS or Android) while growing into the other platform over time.
• Partner with product, design, and backend engineers to turn patient-care goals into performant mobile experiences.
• Help set architectural direction for the mobile platform, including:
  • shared logic
  • state management
  • networking
  • offline behavior
• Ensure mobile quality via code review, testing, performance profiling, and sound technical decisions.
• Support integration of AI / LLM-powered features to improve patient engagement and care delivery.
• Own features end-to-end: scoping → launch → instrumentation → iteration based on real user data.
• Collaborate with clinical and operations stakeholders to understand how the app fits into the broader care journey.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional mobile engineering shipping production features in native iOS or Android.
• Deep expertise in one primary platform:
  • iOS: Swift / SwiftUI (platform conventions, lifecycle, tooling)
  • Android: Kotlin / Jetpack Compose (platform conventions, lifecycle, tooling)
• Demonstrated willingness to work across both platforms and meaningfully contribute to the non-primary one.
• Proficiency consuming RESTful APIs and working with backend engineers on contract design, error handling, and authentication flows.
• Proven ability to deliver complex mobile features from scope through launch, including App Store / Play Store release management.
• Strong ownership, bias toward action, and communication skills in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Production experience across both iOS and Android, or strong ability to ramp quickly to a second platform.
• Experience contributing to or designing shared mobile architectures (shared data models, networking layers, modularization, feature flagging).
• Background in healthcare/telehealth or other regulated industries (HIPAA-aware environments a plus).
• Experience integrating AI/LLM-powered features into mobile (streaming responses, on-device inference, agentic patterns).
• Experience with Google Health Connect or Apple HealthKit.
• Experience scaling mobile codebases or release processes at a high-growth startup.
