About the role
Role Overview
Carrier is seeking an early-career Software Engineer I (Mobile) to support development of Residential mobile applications, including the Smart Home App (SHA) and Service Technician App (STA). The apps are built with React Native and TypeScript and use cloud-based APIs for connected-device workflows. This role is US Remote and requires permanent US residency with no sponsorship available.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain mobile application features using JavaScript and TypeScript
- Build UI components and application logic with React Native
- Implement API integrations to support mobile functionality
- Diagnose and resolve defects (reproduce issues, validate fixes)
- Participate in code reviews and improve code quality and consistency
- Execute unit testing and assist with integration/regression testing
- Support CI/CD pipelines and help with release readiness
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and backend developers
- Apply secure coding practices (e.g., authentication and secure data storage)
- Participate in issue triage and support during U.S. Eastern Time business hours (ET)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a relevant hard science
- 7+ years software engineering experience, including 4+ years shipping production Android and iOS mobile apps
- 3+ years hands-on React Native and TypeScript
- 2+ years integrating Android/iOS mobile apps with GraphQL or REST APIs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience writing JavaScript/TypeScript via projects or coursework
- Experience building mobile or web apps with React Native/React
- Experience integrating REST/web services in projects/coursework
- Understanding of state management (props/state or centralized state stores)
- Experience with mobile apps deployed to iOS App Store and/or Google Play
- Experience with REST or GraphQL services in production
- Able to work 4+ hours/day overlap with U.S. Eastern Time (8:00 AM–12:00 PM ET)
- Experience collaborating with distributed teams across time zones
