ML Ops Lead

Role Overview

FutureFit AI is seeking a Staff / Principal MLOps Engineer to lead ownership of its data and ML infrastructure. You will assess the current state of pipelines and architecture, define an opinionated prioritized plan, and implement key fixes hands-on.

Responsibilities

• Assess & plan: Evaluate current pipelines, data architecture, and ML workflows; create a prioritized plan for what to change and why.
• Systems design: Produce durable data/ML system designs grounded in customer and product needs, with documented tradeoffs.
• Hands-on implementation: Rebuild and harden pipelines, upgrade data architecture, and ship improvements directly in the codebase.
• Reliability & standards: Raise the bar for observability, reliability, and data quality, establishing reusable patterns and practices for the team.

Required Experience / Qualifications

• Staff or principal-level experience in MLOps, data engineering, or ML platform/infrastructure.
• Proven ability to diagnose issues in complex, fast-growing systems and materially improve them.
• Strong systems design skills translating customer/product needs into scalable architecture (communicate clearly in writing).
• Genuinely hands-on: comfortable implementing fixes as well as authoring design documents.
• Deep experience building and operating production data pipelines and ML workflows at scale.
• Fluency with the modern data & ML stack and related cloud infrastructure.

Bonus Points

• Experience establishing MLOps practices early (e.g., CI/CD for models, experiment tracking, feature stores, monitoring).
• Background in mission-driven workforce or government-adjacent data environments.
• Publications/presentations/blog posts demonstrating MLOps expertise.
• Ability to mentor and level up a small data/engineering team.

Employment / Location

• Contract (6 months, potential to convert) or full-time, depending on fit.
• Remote (US or Canada); listed location: New York, NY.
