About the role

Role: ML Engineer

Build and scale core components of Trunk Tools’ AI platform powering agentic workflows on real construction documents.

What you will do

Own and evolve AI platform capabilities, including search, retrieval, and multi-agent orchestration.
Design and build a multi-agent system: define agent “pillars” and collaboration patterns in production.
Architect and scale document processing pipelines (Kubernetes-based), covering:
- ingestion, parsing, chunking
- indexing
- structured data extraction across heterogeneous document types
Design and iterate on search & retrieval systems (ranking, query understanding, QA) using real user behavior and product needs.
Build and expand a knowledge graph (and/or provenance graph), modeling entities and relationships to support downstream reasoning and retrieval.
Lead ambiguous, high-impact projects end-to-end from problem definition through experimentation and productionization.
Create and improve evaluation and experimentation frameworks to measure quality and guide iteration.
Write clean, maintainable, production-grade code and raise engineering quality across the team.

Who you are

7+ years shipping production ML/AI systems.
Proven ability to lead complex, ambiguous projects and deliver measurable impact.
Strong experience with agentic systems, LLM-based applications, and/or orchestration frameworks.
Deep experience with document processing pipelines (parsing, chunking, indexing, structured extraction), ideally in distributed systems (Kubernetes or similar).
Experience building/using knowledge graphs/provenance graphs and modeling entity relationships.
Background in one or more of:
- search/ranking systems
- NLP
- recommendation systems
- large-scale data/ML infrastructure
Strong coding skills in Python, Go, or similar with an emphasis on production systems.
Highly analytical and product-minded, comfortable using data to drive decisions.

Bonus

Experience in construction or other document-heavy industries.

Location / work style

Remote (with mention of flexible long-term work options including remote and hybrid).
