About the role
Role Overview
Mid–Senior Software Engineer (SDET) at Sphere Labs focused on owning release quality, strengthening CI/CD, and scaling automated testing for cross-border payments infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Own the release process: uphold release criteria, coordinate across engineering, and determine whether changes are ready to ship.
- Shape the CI/CD pipeline alongside engineering: define effective gates, reliable signals, and confidence-building tooling from commit to deploy.
- Translate product/acceptance criteria into test cases with product and engineering, covering:
- happy paths
- edge cases
- failure modes
- Execute tests continuously as the platform grows to catch regressions and surface bugs before customers.
- Collaborate to improve platform testability by enhancing test isolation, seams between components, and overall verification friendliness.
- Build and maintain scalable automated test suites to reduce manual effort and move quality into the delivery pipeline.
- Raise the engineering testing bar through code review, documentation, pairing, and pragmatic guidance across layers of the stack.
Requirements
- Solid programming fundamentals and the ability to write clean, maintainable test code.
- Hands-on experience owning or significantly contributing to release processes and shipping reliably.
- Experience designing/evolving CI/CD pipelines (gates, automation, maintaining fast builds and strong signal-to-noise).
- Familiarity with GitHub Actions (plus).
- Experience writing automated tests across unit, integration, and end-to-end.
- Strong analytical skills for turning user journeys into the most important test cases.
- Excellent written communication (test plans, precise bug reports, explaining testing principles).
- Self-directed and systematic work style, comfortable with async collaboration across time zones.
Nice to Have
- TypeScript familiarity.
- Experience with GCP or similar cloud platforms.
- Testing API-driven or payments products, including familiarity with KYC/KYB, webhooks, or financial compliance surfaces.
