About the role
Role Overview
Mid–Senior Software Engineer (SDET) at Sphere Labs, focused on owning quality and reliability across the release pipeline for cross-border payments/settlement infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Own the release process: uphold release criteria, coordinate with engineering, and decide whether code is ready to ship.
- Shape the CI/CD pipeline: define gates, trustworthy signals, and tooling from commit to deploy.
- Create thorough automated test cases from product/engineering acceptance criteria, covering happy paths, edge cases, and failure modes.
- Continuously execute tests as the platform grows to catch regressions and surface bugs before customers.
- Improve platform testability with engineering (test isolation interfaces, clean seams between components, verification-friendly system design).
- Build and maintain scalable automated test suites to reduce manual testing and make quality part of the delivery pipeline.
- Raise the engineering testing bar via code review, documentation, pairing, and practical guidance on testing at each layer.
Requirements
- Strong programming fundamentals; can write clean, maintainable test code and contribute to the codebase.
- Experience owning or significantly contributing to releases and understanding failure modes of weak release processes.
- Experience designing/evolving CI/CD pipelines (gates, automation, fast builds, good signal-to-noise).
- Familiarity with GitHub Actions (or similar) is a plus.
- Automated testing experience across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers.
- TypeScript familiarity is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills to break down user journeys into the most relevant cases.
- Excellent written communication (test plans, precise bug reports, clear explanations).
- Self-directed and systematic: can work asynchronously across time zones and manage priorities.
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with GCP (or similar cloud platforms).
- Experience testing API-driven or payments products; exposure to KYC/KYB flows, webhooks, or compliance domains.
Additional Context
- The company operates as a fully remote, global team based in the United States (location listed as US).
