Mid/Senior Fullstack Engineer (Shop & Payments, React/Go)

Role Overview

Mid/Senior Fullstack Engineer for the Shop & Payments domain at AMBOSS. You’ll build and improve the gateway that enables medical students to purchase and access the AMBOSS platform, directly impacting revenue and user discovery. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, own features end-to-end, and help innovate with AI.

Key Missions

• Become a domain expert in AMBOSS’s shop and payment architecture, including purchase experience and international tax compliance.
• Deliver end-to-end features and improvements from discovery to deployment, shipping real products on the shop or enabling localized checkout.
• Design and evolve high-availability services for regional payment methods and subscription logic.
• Own discovery, technical design, deployment, and monitoring for the services you build.

Requirements

• API design experience with GraphQL and/or REST.
• Go (Golang): strong backend fundamentals (concurrency, API design, error handling).
• React & TypeScript: solid foundations for building responsive frontends.
• Ability to deconstruct complex codebases; for Seniors, design data models at scale.
• Pragmatic engineering judgment: know when to ship a quick proof-of-concept vs invest in long-term stability.
• Comfort with ambiguity and evolving requirements.
• Product-minded: focus on user impact and business value.
• Ops & Observability: hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD, and AWS/Kubernetes; write your own tests and use dashboards.
• AI-native: comfortable and excited by AI-assisted development, including LLM integration / AI-powered features.

Nice-to-haves

• Understanding of international tax or fintech compliance.
• Experience with event-driven architectures / message queues.
• Experience with payment providers such as Stripe, Adyen, or Braintree.
