Role overview

Mid-Level Developer (Java/Backend) to design, develop, and support scalable, API-driven backend applications for data discovery and analytics. You’ll contribute across the full lifecycle from architecture and implementation through deployment and operational support.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, deploy, maintain, and support enterprise API-driven applications across the full software development lifecycle (requirements, design, coding, testing, deployment, operations)
Build and optimize RESTful APIs using Java and modern application frameworks
Develop scalable backend solutions using technologies such as J2EE, Tomcat, Oracle RAC, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Aurora, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch
Implement cloud-native ETL and automation workflows using AWS Step Functions and Lambda
Contribute to database architecture, design, administration, performance optimization, and operations for large-scale enterprise databases
Manage source control and workflows using GitHub/Bitbucket and Jira, and support CI/CD pipeline work
Apply Agile practices within a SAFe framework (sprint planning, backlog refinement, iterative delivery, continuous improvement)
Perform unit/integration testing, deployment validation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance
Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders; help define requirements and participate in architecture discussions
Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing when needed

Requirements

3+ years of experience as a software engineer/backend developer
Strong Java expertise and ability to design secure, scalable applications
Strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs, including API security best practices
Proficiency with Java and API frameworks such as Spring Boot, JAX-RS, or Jersey
Familiarity with additional languages such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript
Strong database knowledge: Oracle, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Aurora, plus data structures/algorithms and indexing strategies
Experience in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) using Jira/Confluence and SAFe
Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
Ability to present technical designs/architecture documents and recommendations

Nice to have

Experience with JavaScript and front-end frameworks such as Vue.js
