Role Overview
Manager, Software Engineering (Hybrid)
- Preferred location: Chicago, IL — 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
- Secondary locations (remote/eligible): Boston, MA, New York, NY, DC area, Miami, FL, Dallas, TX, Houston, TX
- Salary: Open + Bonus

Responsibilities
- Design and evolve distributed system architecture for a cloud-native automation platform (Azure Container Apps, Service Bus, PostgreSQL, Redis, Blob Storage)
- Create event-driven architectures using Azure Service Bus for high-volume asynchronous processing
- Improve platform performance, cost, and operational complexity through architectural enhancements
- Lead .NET backend development (ASP.NET Core APIs, CQRS with MediatR, Entity Framework Core, FluentValidation)
- Conduct code reviews with focus on SOLID, async best practices, and distributed systems patterns
- Own and evolve Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, including multi-phase infrastructure deployment and environment-specific container deployments
- Manage and mentor software engineers, advancing cloud engineering capabilities
Requirements
- 6+ years hands-on software engineering building cloud-native applications on Azure
- 3+ years experience with Azure Container Apps, AKS, or equivalent container orchestration
- 2+ years people management leading software engineering teams
- Proven delivery of distributed systems in production using microservices and event-driven patterns
- Hands-on Azure services including:
- Azure Service Bus
- Azure database services: Azure SQL Database (Elastic Pools), Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server
- Managed identity authentication
- Connection pooling and private endpoint configuration
- Strong understanding of microservices communication patterns:
- Synchronous HTTP, asynchronous messaging, event-driven architecture, service discovery
- Proficiency in C#/.NET (minimum .NET 6, preferably .NET 8+), including:
- ASP.NET Core Web API with Controllers
- async/await and Task-based async
- LINQ/lambda, Dependency Injection, Options pattern, Entity Framework Core
- Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, including:
- async patterns (Promises, async/await)
- npm/pnpm package management
- module systems (CommonJS, ES modules)
- scripting with Bash or PowerShell for deployment automation
- Container build/deploy workflows including:
- Dockerfile optimization and multi-stage builds
- Azure Container Registry integration
- Ability to mentor engineers on cloud-native development patterns, distributed systems, and Azure architecture
