Role overview
Manager, Software Engineering (Distributed Management) leads a team building and maintaining core components that ensure reliability and scalability across multiple products. This is a hands-on leadership role collaborating with developers and stakeholders to design, build, and support large-scale distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Build, mentor, and manage a cross-functional engineering team spanning backend and frontend for distributed systems
- Partner with leadership and stakeholders to align delivery with company objectives
- Set and maintain high standards for design, code quality, and system reliability
- Work with Product Management and Architecture teams to plan and execute the product roadmap
- Balance immediate problem-solving with long-term strategic initiatives
- Lead cross-team projects from inception to delivery
- Provide technical guidance via code reviews and architecture support
- Recruit, onboard, and develop top engineering talent; foster an inclusive culture
- Participate in stand-by/on-call/off-hours responsibilities as needed
Requirements
- Proven leadership experience managing distributed, remote engineering teams in Agile environments
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to deliver outcomes across team boundaries
- Experience shipping customer-facing features quickly while maintaining architectural integrity
- Demonstrated success in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring engineers
- Established engineering best practices and processes
- Ability to work directly with customers on technical issues and feature improvements
- Background in high-scale distributed systems, including data streaming and node management
- Over 10 years industry experience, including at least 2 years in technical leadership roles
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Nice to have
- Experience with TypeScript and Node.js
- Experience with production SaaS and observability, including on-call experience
