Manager of Software Engineering (Account Management)

Role Overview

You will lead Affirm’s Account Management team, a full-stack group responsible for customer-facing self-service experiences around auth, identity, and security.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of engineering managers and software engineers, supporting growth, performance, feedback, coaching, and career development.
• Create and execute a long-term technical roadmap aligned to fast-growing business needs.
• Define OKRs and critical metrics to guide direction and measure engineering success.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and tools.
• Collaborate across teams throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure technical sustainability, manage risks, and communicate trade-offs.
• Own availability and performance of your team’s systems.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership: stay close to code/architecture, run design/code reviews, pair when helpful, and contribute directly to unblock delivery.
• Demonstrate strong stakeholder management and delivery ownership through ambiguity.

Requirements

• Proven ability to grow, lead, and support high-performing engineering teams.
• 6–8+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years managing engineers (or equivalent leadership experience).
• Experience building web apps using declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity.
• Strong stakeholder management, ownership, and delivery track record.
• Technical judgment to guide architecture and quality decisions and maintain high engineering practices.
• Humble, team-first leadership with active contribution to culture and peer development.

Nice-to-haves / Additional Details

• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using: Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes.
