Role Overview

Join Affirm as Manager of Machine Learning Engineering. You will lead a team of ML engineers to develop and continuously improve fraud detection models, defining the technical and modeling strategy and ensuring successful integration into decision-making systems.

Key Missions

• Define technical & modeling strategy for fraud detection.
• Lead end-to-end ML development for high-impact fraud models, guiding the team through the full ML lifecycle.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Fraud Analytics, Risk, and Engineering to define solutions and ensure models are effectively integrated into decision systems.
• Drive evolution of modeling approaches and develop talent within your team.

Responsibilities

• Set direction for modeling and experimentation in production.
• Oversee iteration through training, evaluation, and deployment feedback loops.
• Lead teams delivering ML solutions in production environments.

Requirements

• Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration (Product, Analytics, Engineering).
• Proven ability to lead teams delivering end-to-end ML in production, including experimentation, evaluation, and model iteration.
• 8+ years industry experience with a technical background, including 3+ years managing engineers (or equivalent practical experience).
• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in scalable systems and data pipelines.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous, fast-evolving environments, driving clarity, prioritization, and execution.
• Experience with modern and/or traditional ML approaches, including:
  • Representation learning / deep learning / transformer-based models
  • Gradient-boosted trees
