Manager of Engineering (Secure Build)

Role overview

Join Docker as Manager of Engineering (Secure Build) for the Secure Build team. You will lead a small, senior group that builds and operates the infrastructure behind Docker’s container builds, owning delivery, growth, and operational excellence while helping set the team’s technical direction.

Key missions / responsibilities

• Lead senior engineers operating Docker Build Cloud and Docker Hub’s build systems, and help build Docker’s next-generation secure build infrastructure.
• Own the roadmap delivery, turning ambiguous commitments into concrete, predictable plans.
• Drive technical direction through active technical design discussions and code reviews, and stay hands-on by writing code where it helps.
• Partner effectively with Product and ensure the team mechanics/process support value delivery.
• Own production operational reality, including on-call and operational excellence.
• Lead team growth, shipping improvements that customers can trust—grounded in real customer proximity.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering background and ability to remain hands-on in design/code review.
• Experience managing high-performing engineering teams (leader first, hands-on enough to stay in the detail).
• Deep interest/passion for security, including how modern attacks work and OWASP Top 10.
• Understanding of CI/CD and build-system internals, container images, image hardening, and OCI registry mechanics.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Comfortable owning operational responsibilities for production systems and on-call.
• Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with software supply chain security such as SLSA, in-toto, provenance, signing (e.g., cosign), SBOMs, and vulnerability scanning.
• Hands-on familiarity with Go (team’s primary language).
