Machine Learning Engineer - Fully Remote | Upto $85/hr

Role Overview

Mercor is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer (Coding Agent Experience) for a fully remote contract role.

You will use frontier AI coding agents to deliver and review complex ML/AI engineering tasks, including evaluating and improving model-generated implementations.

Responsibilities

• Use frontier AI coding agents to complete and evaluate ML and AI engineering tasks
• Review model-generated implementations across:
  • Model training
  • Inference systems
  • MLOps
  • LLM applications
• Identify bugs, edge cases, performance issues, and failure modes
• Compare outputs from multiple frontier models and assess strengths/weaknesses
• Apply professional engineering judgment to realistic ML engineering scenarios

Requirements (Must-Have)

• 2+ years of professional machine learning engineering experience
• Experience building production ML systems, deployment infrastructure, LLM applications, or AI-powered products
• Regular use of AI coding agents such as:
  • Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Windsurf, Gemini CLI (or similar)
• Ability to evaluate model-generated ML implementations and technical tradeoffs

Nice-to-Haves (Preferred)

• Experience deploying ML systems to production

Contract & Compensation

• $85/hour (remote)
• Additional compensation mention: $400 per accepted task (work tied to accepted tasks)
