About the role
Role Overview
Mercor is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer (Coding Agent Experience) for a fully remote contract role.
You will use frontier AI coding agents to deliver and review complex ML/AI engineering tasks, including evaluating and improving model-generated implementations.
Responsibilities
- Use frontier AI coding agents to complete and evaluate ML and AI engineering tasks
- Review model-generated implementations across:
- Model training
- Inference systems
- MLOps
- LLM applications
- Identify bugs, edge cases, performance issues, and failure modes
- Compare outputs from multiple frontier models and assess strengths/weaknesses
- Apply professional engineering judgment to realistic ML engineering scenarios
Requirements (Must-Have)
- 2+ years of professional machine learning engineering experience
- Experience building production ML systems, deployment infrastructure, LLM applications, or AI-powered products
- Regular use of AI coding agents such as:
- Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Windsurf, Gemini CLI (or similar)
- Ability to evaluate model-generated ML implementations and technical tradeoffs
Nice-to-Haves (Preferred)
- Experience deploying ML systems to production
Contract & Compensation
- $85/hour (remote)
- Additional compensation mention: $400 per accepted task (work tied to accepted tasks)
