About the role
Role overview
Volta is hiring a Legal Counsel to support the Executive and Legal/Compliance teams. You will draft, review, and negotiate the agreements that underpin Volta’s fundraising, strategic direction, and day-to-day operations—working closely with commercial and infrastructure teams.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts (vendor, procurement, customer/partnership agreements)
- Assess and advise internal stakeholders on contractual risk, obligations, and negotiation strategy
- Support procurement and delivery teams on equipment, construction, and services agreements for data center projects
- Assist with corporate/structuring work (entity formation, corporate workflows, governance negotiations)
- Maintain contract templates, playbooks, and approval workflows
- Track contractual obligations and support compliance with commercial terms
- Coordinate with General Counsel / VP Legal on regulatory, tax, and policy topics as needed
- Support due diligence for partnerships, financings, and other transactions
- Stay current on relevant legal and regulatory developments impacting the business
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a commercial lawyer (in-house or at a law firm), ideally supporting infrastructure, technology, or energy clients
- J.D. and active bar membership in a relevant jurisdiction (US or England)
- Strong skills in commercial contract drafting and negotiation
- Ability to manage a high volume of contracts and competing priorities
- Strong judgment, attention to detail, and communication skills
- Comfortable partnering directly with business stakeholders outside Legal
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
