Lead Software Engineer - Web

Role Overview

Paramount+ is hiring a Lead Software Engineer (Web) for its Web Engineering organization. You will own the technical direction and delivery of frontend experiences across Paramount+ and other supported brands (including Pluto.tv), leading a team while staying hands-on in the codebase.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical planning, execution, and delivery of frontend features for Paramount+ and Pluto.tv web apps
• Build and maintain React and Next.js applications with emphasis on performance, reliability, and scalability
• Own and evolve frontend architecture (component design, data fetching patterns, state management, rendering strategies)
• Develop and maintain a GraphQL API layer (Apollo Server) consumed by multiple frontend apps
• Steward shared frontend packages in a monorepo (pnpm workspaces, Turborepo)
• Lead and mentor engineers: technical guidance, code reviews, and continuous improvement
• Drive web performance optimization targeting Core Web Vitals, critical rendering path, and perceived load times
• Partner with personalization/engagement teams to ship real-time recommendations and personalized experiences (including sign-up flow and short-form video)
• Work closely with Product and Design to deliver well-scoped technical solutions
• Collaborate with Backend Engineering and DevOps/SRE to build and deploy high-performing services
• Improve CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), testing infrastructure, and developer tooling
• Advocate for modern AI-powered development tools and workflows
• Communicate tradeoffs and status to technical and non-technical stakeholders; document via RFCs/ADRs/Confluence and async processes

Requirements (Basic Qualifications)

• 7+ years of web application development
• 2+ years in a technical leadership / lead engineer role
• BS in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
• Deep expertise in modern frontend architecture, web development best practices, and OOP/data structures/algorithms
• Expert JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS/Sass, and HTML
• Strong production experience with React (including SSR) and Next.js (or similar)
• Solid knowledge of GraphQL (schema design, resolvers, federation)
• Familiarity with monorepo tooling (pnpm workspaces, Turborepo)
• Deep understanding of web performance and browser rendering (Core Web Vitals, critical rendering path)

• Experience with Webpack and/or Rspack
• Experience with shared package stewardship and advanced testing/developer tooling improvements
• Experience shipping real-time personalization and engagement features
