Role Overview

Lead Software Engineer in Test (Hands-on Quality Engineering Lead)

Own the test automation strategy and lead engineering quality efforts while staying deeply involved in framework design and CI/CD test integration.

Location / Work Style

• Remote or Hybrid (El Segundo, CA and/or Burbank/North Hollywood, CA)
• Occasional off-hours availability may be required

What You’ll Be Doing

• Test Strategy & Architecture
  • Own end-to-end test automation across unit, integration, acceptance, and non-functional testing
  • Design and maintain scalable automation frameworks for APIs, web, and mobile
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines for rapid feedback
  • Use AI-powered tools to accelerate test creation, expand coverage, and reduce maintenance
• Engineering Quality Culture
  • Champion quality as a shared responsibility across engineering
  • Lead exploratory and usability testing practices throughout delivery
  • Advocate for testable, loosely coupled architecture in design reviews
  • Analyze logs, monitoring, and incident patterns to guide coverage strategy
  • Reduce change failure rate and shorten lead time by improving test coverage and feedback
  • Identify and eliminate testing bottlenecks in the delivery pipeline
  • Report quality trends and escalate QA risks; serve as an escalation point for QA matters
• Technical Leadership
  • Lead via code reviews, framework design guidance, and best-practice documentation
  • Run knowledge-sharing sessions and drive adoption of AI-assisted test generation

Requirements

• 5+ years in QA/test engineering, including 3+ years in a lead or senior IC automation role
• Hands-on experience designing and building automation frameworks (not only scripts)
• Strong proficiency in at least one language: TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Java, or C#
• Experience with modern test frameworks: Playwright, Jest, Selenium, Cypress, Appium, RestAssured
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI
• Demonstrated experience using AI-powered tools (LLM-based assistants, AI test generators)
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Software Engineering (or equivalent practical experience)

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree in CS/Software Engineering (or equivalent)
• Strong communication skills translating quality into business language
• Coaching and influence: pairing/mentoring and clear documentation
