About the role

Role Overview

Lead Software Engineer reporting directly to the CTO. This is a critical, hands-on leadership role responsible for building, mentoring, and scaling a high-performing engineering team while defining engineering standards and delivering secure, high-quality, scalable systems.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Engineering Culture
- Manage and grow a team of 5–10 engineers; foster accountability, collaboration, and performance.
- Mentor engineers and managers; provide hands-on technical guidance.
- Shape engineering culture, drive engagement, and set clear technical direction.
Technical Strategy & Product Delivery
- Oversee and contribute to the roadmap and end-to-end delivery of systems, products, and platforms.
- Champion best practices across code quality, testing, deployment, operations, and AI utilization.
- Define and monitor engineering KPIs for productivity, quality, and delivery efficiency.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to translate ambiguous business requirements into executable engineering solutions.

Requirements

10+ years progressive software engineering experience.
2+ years leading and mentoring.
Proven delivery of high-quality, complex software systems in small-team environments.
Strong depth across the full stack and modern software development practices, architectures, and tooling.
Expertise building lightweight, fast-rendering, SEO-friendly web pages.
Comfortable working with Linux-based systems, including scripting and filesystem work.
Experience in eCommerce, logistics, or marketplace environments is a strong plus.

Required Tech Stack

Ruby on Rails (backend core)
AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM)
MySQL or PostgreSQL (query/performance optimization)
JavaScript and Tailwind CSS (frontend)

Compensation & Benefits

$150,000–$200,000 base salary plus bonus, equity, and unlimited PTO.
