About the role

Role overview

Join Bonterra as a Lead Software Engineer to drive innovation and improve the software development lifecycle using AI tools and methodologies. You will own the technical health and quality of existing and new AI-powered features, partner with cross-functional teams, and help evolve product technologies.

Key missions

Ensure the technical health and quality of existing and new AI-powered features, keeping them aligned with global product objectives.
Collaborate with Product Management, Data Science, and Engineering to define features, manage project scope, and align priorities.
Continuously improve product technologies and keep the team current with emerging trends in AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science.

Responsibilities

Lead technical quality for AI-enabled product capabilities.
Contribute to product technology evolution and modern software delivery practices.
Mentor and guide engineers; strengthen a collaborative, team-first culture.
Use AI tooling and prompt engineering to solve engineering problems.
Engage in code reviews with strong attention to detail.

Requirements

5+ years of full-stack software development experience (design patterns, data structures).
Experience integrating AI technologies (e.g., LLMs) into existing software products.
Strong application stack skills: Django, Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS ECS.
Solid expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure and deployment models, including automation, orchestration, and scaling.
Strong problem-solving for complex AI and software engineering challenges.
Excellent cross-functional communication with data science and product teams.
Proficiency with React, TypeScript, and Node.js for strong front-end contributions.
Experience with Agile methodologies including Kanban, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Experience mentoring junior engineers.

Nice-to-haves

Deep learning and/or NLP and/or reinforcement learning.
Proven production experience developing and deploying AI models / ML algorithms.
Experience applying AI applications to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, or Windsurf.
