About the role

Role Overview

Lead RCDD Designer for Olsson’s Data Center Team. You’ll lead structured cabling and communications system design for mission-critical data center projects, act as a technical authority on RCDD requirements, and mentor others.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structured cabling and communications system design for data center environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, and alignment to industry standards and client requirements.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings using CAD/BIM tools, including cable routing, equipment layouts, and system documentation for new builds and upgrades.
  • Serve as the technical authority on RCDD requirements, providing direction, quality oversight, and design solutions.
  • Manage smaller projects from concept through completion, ensuring design excellence and coordination across disciplines.
  • Collaborate directly with data center clients and represent Olsson’s client-focused service approach.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to verify conditions and support installation progress.

Requirements

  • Active RCDD certification (required).
  • 6+ years of CAD/BIM experience using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience producing and reviewing complex engineering drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; collaborative, dependable, and analytical/problem-solving mindset.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Design, or related field (preferred).
  • Understanding of structured cabling standards: BICSI, TIA/EIA, NFPA.
  • Ability to interpret technical specs and coordinate across disciplines.
  • Willingness to complete occasional job-site visits.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with BIM 360 and Navisworks (or similar collaborative design tools).

Compensation

  • National Pay Range: $120,000–$180,000 USD (final compensation may vary by geography, experience, and qualifications).
