About the role
Role Overview
Join Stream as a Lead Platform Engineer to improve the real-time platform across efficiency, reliability, and cloud cost. You’ll be hands-on, leading infrastructure decisions while working with a small, senior team.
Key Missions
- Lead cloud migration from AWS to GCP.
- Set up and run Kubernetes as part of the modernization effort.
- Migrate 35–40 PostgreSQL shards from AWS RDS to self-hosted PostgreSQL on Kubernetes, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Define long-term platform direction and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with product and SDK engineers to improve the developer experience.
First 6 Months Focus
- Cloud migration (AWS → GCP)
- Kubernetes setup
- Moving Postgres shards
Responsibilities
- Hands-on platform/backend engineering in code.
- Lead projects and technical execution, including driving PRs.
- Partner cross-functionally to shape platform operations and standards at scale.
Requirements
- Software engineering background (built systems; not just configuration)
- Backend/platform coding experience in Go or Python (not scripting-only)
- Kubernetes experience at meaningful production scale
- Hands-on leadership in a small team (3–5 people)
- Deep PostgreSQL expertise, especially sharding (not just partitioning)
- Strong AWS and/or GCP depth, including cloud cost optimization with measurable outcomes
- AI tooling fluency with active applied adoption in engineering workflows
- Evidence via engineering blog and/or conference talks on cloud/platform/distributed systems
- Prior experience at an API-first or infrastructure-enabling scale-up
Nice-to-Haves
- Open source contributions to infra/platform tooling
- Cloud migration experience ideally AWS → GCP and/or re-architecting for cost/performance
