Lead Design Technologist

Role Overview

As a Lead Design Technologist at Atlassian, you lead cross-department projects and make decisions that impact multiple teams. You will deliver scalable design technology solutions that support product builders across Atlassian, focusing on prototyping, motion, and AI-led design workflows.

You’ll join the Design Technology team within Core Design, reporting to the Senior Manager for Design Technology.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality design technology solutions across multiple domains/workstreams.
• Champion rapid prototyping, user testing, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Mentor and guide less experienced designers and technologists.
• Identify and implement improvements to design workflows via custom tooling and automation.
• Solve complex design technology problems, optimizing processes with AI/LLMs.
• Demonstrate advanced skills in JavaScript frameworks, prototyping, and motion design.
• Lead co-creation of sense-making artifacts (e.g., blueprints, models) to communicate design concepts.
• Drive adoption of design technology best practices and contribute to continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 7+ years leading high-performing design or design technology craft domains.
• Strong familiarity with modern AI product building workflows, including agentic loops, generative UI/UX, evals, and context engineering best practices.
• Front-end engineering fundamentals, prototyping experience, and AI tools; experience integrating with visual design tools such as Figma.
• Experience mentoring and coaching others.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence stakeholders.
• Familiarity with AI/ML, motion, and accessibility in design.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with AI-native prototyping culture and AI toolchain workflow improvements.
• Deep expertise in accessibility-focused, inclusive design technology at enterprise scale.

Compensation

• US base pay is zone-based. Current ranges for new hires:
  • Zone A: $192,600 - $251,450
  • Zone B: $173,340 - $226,305
  • Zone C: $159,858 - $208,704
• May also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity (depending on location/team).
