About the role

Role Overview

Airbnb is seeking an experienced attorney for Lead Counsel, Community Trust. The role provides legal support and counseling across fraud and safety defenses/enforcement, community support, law enforcement operations, and global crisis management and disaster response. You will report to the Associate General Counsel, Community Trust and work within Airbnb’s Legal team in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.

Responsibilities

Support the Fraud & Safety Operations team with proactive defenses and reactive interventions to help keep the community safe
Advise on user/customer support escalations, including analysis and guidance on matters implicating Airbnb policies and policy enforcement
Assess and manage global legal risks, including life safety and law enforcement operations, and provide advice related to internal investigations
Drive and advise on cross-functional projects with teams including:
- Fraud & Safety, Global Crisis Management, Community Support
- Communications, Community Policy, Public Policy, Privacy, Hosting
Help manage team resources to align with business priorities and objectives
Champion Airbnb’s mission, ethics, and integrity
Support a workplace that is diverse, inclusive, and free of discrimination/harassment

Requirements

J.D. with strong academic credentials
Senior in-house, law firm partner, or comparable federal/state government experience
Member of the California Bar or eligible to register as Registered In-House Counsel
12–15 years of experience in areas such as:
- litigation and risk mitigation
- fraud and safety
- law enforcement operations
- global policy application
Strong analytical, oral, and writing skills; ability to distill complex legal issues for business audiences
Ability to operate effectively in novel/ambiguous and high-stakes situations
Demonstrated ability to deliver pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice balancing risk and reward
Strong ownership mindset and project drive from inception
