About the role
Role Overview
Join Blend as a Lead Cloud & DevOps Engineer in a temporary position that may become permanent. You will provision and operate the core AWS infrastructure for a foundational AWS data platform supporting a large telecommunications client. You’ll work closely with Data Engineers, BI Consultants, and Governance leads.
Responsibilities
- Provision & operate AWS infrastructure for data ingestion/orchestration, data lake, and analytics platforms
- Design AWS infrastructure & deployment patterns for the data platform, including:
- Multi-account AWS Organizations strategy
- IAM design, networking (VPC), naming conventions, and tagging standards
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for repeatable, controlled releases across Dev/Test/Prod
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to provision/configure AWS resources
- Support deployment and operations of cloud-native services and applications
- Ensure secure platform operations in regulated environments
- Contribute to observability (logging/monitoring/alerting/service health) and operational readiness
- Support production-grade data platform operations, including service transition to managed support models
Requirements
- Strong experience in AWS-native architecture and secure platform operations in regulated environments
- Hands-on Terraform (infrastructure-as-code)
- Proven release engineering and CI/CD / release automation
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Hands-on AWS deployment/operations using services such as:
- AWS Glue, Amazon S3, Amazon Redshift
- AWS Lambda, IAM, VPC networking
- Amazon ECS/EKS (container orchestration)
- Security knowledge including IAM/RBAC, secrets management, encryption, and policy-driven access control
- Observability tooling experience: logging, monitoring, alerting, service health
- Git-based workflows and collaborative engineering practices
Nice-to-haves / Additional Experience
- Experience with Databricks and/or Snowflake deployments on AWS
- Experience with AWS data/analytics services and architectures including:
- Amazon Athena, AWS Lake Formation, Amazon EMR, S3 data lake patterns
- Familiarity with medallion/lakehouse architectures
- Experience implementing observability and data quality monitoring for ingestion pipelines and SLA-driven orchestration
- CI/CD tooling experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline/CodeBuild
- Knowledge of Canadian privacy requirements (PIPEDA) and translating them into platform controls (PII tagging, RBAC, encryption, audit logging, data governance)
- Exposure to QA automation and non-functional testing for cloud-native systems
