About the role
Role: Kubernetes & OpenShift Engineer
Design, deploy, and operate enterprise-grade Red Hat OpenShift container platforms for mission-critical workloads across on-premises and cloud environments.
Responsibilities
- Architect, provision, and operate Red Hat OpenShift clusters across on-premises, virtualized, and major cloud environments, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
- Design multi-tenant OpenShift platforms with proper project isolation, network policies, quotas, RBAC, and security context constraints.
- Automate cluster lifecycle operations (installations, upgrades, scaling, decommissioning) using OpenShift Installer, GitOps (Argo CD / OpenShift GitOps), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Onboard application teams with self-service patterns, project templates, CI/CD integrations, and supporting documentation.
- Operate OpenShift networking: SDN/OVN-Kubernetes, ingress controllers, routes, network policies, and integration with enterprise firewalls/load balancers.
- Manage OpenShift storage strategies (block/file/object) including dynamic provisioning, OpenShift Data Foundation, and external storage integrations.
- Implement monitoring/logging/tracing with OpenShift observability (Prometheus, Grafana, EFK, Tempo) and integrate with SIEM/APM tools.
- Harden the platform with security teams: image scanning (Quay/Clair), runtime protection, secret management, and continuous compliance.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines on OpenShift (Tekton, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Argo Workflows) for safe, frequent deployments.
- Create disaster recovery and backup strategies for cluster state (e.g., etcd) and persistent workloads; run failover/restore drills.
- Plan and execute OpenShift upgrades (minor/major) with minimal disruption, including pre-upgrade validation and rollback plans.
- Right-size workloads with application teams, manage resource quotas, and tune cluster autoscaling for performance and cost.
- Improve platform tooling and developer experience based on internal feedback; mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years operating container platforms in production; at least 3 years on Red Hat OpenShift.
- Deep, hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes.
Nice-to-haves / Preferred Capabilities (implied by role scope)
- Strong Linux fundamentals.
- Security-first approach to container platform operations.
- Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, observability, DR/backup, and upgrade automation.
Location / Work Model
- 100% Remote (U.S.)
