About the role

Role Overview

Embedded Kubernetes & Database Migration Engineer for a remote U.S. position. You’ll help migrate a mission-critical on-prem platform to AWS using a Rehost (Lift-and-Shift) + Kubernetes modernization approach, working closely with application, cloud infrastructure, and DBA teams.

Responsibilities

Kubernetes & Application Migration

  • Implement container orchestration practices (pod scaling, resource limits, health checks)
  • Establish GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines for Kubernetes deployment automation
  • Maintain hybrid networking connectivity to on-prem hardware (barcode scanners, laser cutters, label printers) during and after migration

Database Migration & Replication

  • Coordinate with the DBA team to migrate MySQL hub-spoke replication to AWS RDS
  • Validate binary log replication strategy across hub and spoke databases
  • Test and document read-replica promotion procedures and DR runbooks
  • Preserve AWS DMS reporting replication connectivity during migration
  • Ensure ongoing connectivity to downstream dependencies (Kafka, RabbitMQ, message queuing systems, and MSSQL)

Networking & Security

  • Collaborate with Cloud Infrastructure to validate VPC architecture (Transit Gateway, VPC peering, Security Groups) across AWS regions
  • Implement TLS/certificate management
  • Configure DNS routing/records during cutover windows
  • Execute and validate network preflight connectivity tests across all application dependencies prior to each cutover
  • Design and document inbound/outbound Security Group rules based on port dependencies

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in cloud infrastructure and application migration with hands-on AWS experience
  • Strong Kubernetes expertise: cluster operations, Helm chart authoring/migration, namespace management, pod lifecycle, troubleshooting
  • Hands-on AWS EKS provisioning and managed add-on management
  • Proficiency in AWS networking: VPC, subnets, Security Groups, Transit Gateway, Route Tables, VPC Peering, PrivateLink
  • Working knowledge of MySQL replication topologies and binary log replication; RDS/Aurora MySQL migration
  • DNS management and TLS/certificate lifecycle experience (e.g., cert-manager, ACM)
  • Infrastructure as Code proficiency (Terraform or AWS CloudFormation)
  • Experience designing/executing migration cutover plans with rollback criteria
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management

Requirements / Eligibility

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder
