Junior Software Engineer

Role overview

Join a fully remote engineering team as a Junior Backend Software Engineer. You’ll build cloud-native backend systems and microservices that modernize legacy government IT platforms and deliver real-world impact.

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable Java backend applications and microservices
• Design and build REST APIs for enterprise platforms
• Modernize legacy systems using cloud-native technologies
• Deploy and maintain applications in Kubernetes / containerized environments
• Build reliable, scalable solutions on AWS and cloud infrastructure
• Troubleshoot production issues and support enterprise applications
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and pair programming
• Collaborate with DevOps, QA, Security, and Product teams
• Support event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka
• Contribute to CI/CD and GitOps development practices

Requirements

• 3+ years professional software development experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 5+ years with an Associate’s degree
• Strong Java and object-oriented programming skills
• Experience building REST APIs and microservices
• Experience with Kubernetes and container technologies
• Cloud experience with AWS (or similar)
• Knowledge of Agile software development practices
• Experience with Git-based version control (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket)
