Junior Backend Developer

Role Overview

Summit Professional Education is hiring a Junior Backend Developer for a small, tight-knit team. The role emphasizes strong backend fundamentals and the ability to use AI coding tools daily to ship high-quality work quickly.

A major focus will be migrating acquired company websites from WordPress to Summit’s platforms, including pulling and mapping data/content. You’ll also maintain backend APIs that power the course catalog, checkout, and the user-facing portal.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain REST APIs for the course platform, checkout flow, and user experience.
• Write and maintain SQL against AWS Aurora RDS (queries, schema changes, and data integrity).
• Migrate acquired sites off WordPress and into Summit’s platform; map content and bring properties into the ecosystem.
• Support integrations with third-party services including Recurly, NetSuite, Stripe, and HubSpot.
• Work with AWS services such as Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk, and API Gateway.
• Collaborate with frontend developers (notably Vue/Nuxt) to connect UI to backend services.
• Use AI coding tools actively and deliberately to improve output and code quality.
• Document what you build and what you learn.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of production backend development experience.
• Uses AI tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) as a core part of daily workflow.
• Can give examples of how AI helped you move faster, catch bugs, or handle beyond-your-level work.
• Self-driven: manages your work, asks good questions, and can learn quickly.
• Strong communicator in a remote, async environment.
• Eagerness to grow quickly.
