Role overview

Join Top Hat as a Junior Analytics Engineer in a small, high-impact data team supporting multiple operational teams. You’ll help build and maintain the analytics foundations that power internal dashboards and ad-hoc reporting.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and optimize data models to ensure data integrity and reliable pipelines.
Monitor data pipelines, identify inconsistencies, and help resolve issues.
Translate stakeholder requirements into clean, efficient SQL queries under guidance from senior team members.
Build internal dashboards for operational users.
Support ad-hoc data requests and assist with analytics needs.
Learn and apply modern data tools and software engineering best practices.

Requirements

Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong attention to detail and a collaborative, hands-on problem-solving mindset.
Solid foundation in SQL (CTEs, window functions, query optimization).
Solid foundation in Python.
1–2+ years experience in analytics, data engineering, or similar quantitative work.

Nice-to-haves

Experience with modern data tools: dbt and Airflow.
Software engineering practices: Git and testing.
Familiarity with data modeling and BI tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau).
Experience in tech products/startups; recent higher-ed experience as a teacher or student.
