About the role
Role overview
The Junior AI Product Owner is responsible for defining, prioritizing, and delivering AI-driven products and capabilities that solve business problems and create measurable value. You will bridge business stakeholders and data science/engineering/platform teams, translating business needs into AI-ready requirements and ensuring ethical, scalable, high-quality AI throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Product strategy & vision
- Own the AI product vision, roadmap, and success metrics aligned with business goals and AI maturity strategy
- Identify and prioritize high-impact AI use cases (e.g., cost reduction, revenue uplift, productivity, risk mitigation)
- Translate business problems into AI-ready problem statements with objectives, constraints, and expected value
- Backlog & requirements management
- Convert requirements into Epics, Features, and User Stories with clear acceptance criteria
- Groom and continuously prioritize the AI product backlog based on value, feasibility, and risk
- Ensure requirements cover data needs, model behavior, performance thresholds, explainability, and compliance
- Stakeholder collaboration
- Act as the primary interface between business stakeholders and AI/engineering/platform teams
- Facilitate trade-offs across accuracy, cost, scalability, latency, and delivery timelines
- Communicate AI capabilities and limitations to non-technical stakeholders
- AI delivery & lifecycle management
- Lead initiatives from discovery through post-launch optimization
- Partner with engineering teams on MLOps, retraining strategy, and monitoring in production
- Embed human-in-the-loop (HITL) controls and governance where needed
- Quality, ethics & governance
- Ensure responsible AI principles: fairness, transparency, security, and regulatory compliance
- Define acceptance criteria for accuracy, bias thresholds, explainability, and operational reliability
- Support audits, documentation, and governance reviews
- Value tracking & continuous improvement
- Define and track KPIs for AI outcomes post-deployment
- Gather feedback and use operational insights to improve models/workflows
- Drive iterative improvements and backlog refinement
Required skills & qualifications
- Product Owner/Product Manager experience in Agile or SAFe
- Strong backlog management, user story writing, prioritization, and release planning
- Experience working with cross-functional, distributed teams
- Solid understanding of AI/ML concepts, including Generative AI, LLMs, supervised/unsupervised learning, and agent-based systems
- Ability to collaborate closely with data scientists/engineers (without needing to build models hands-on)
- Familiarity with data pipelines, model evaluation metrics, MLOps concepts, and cloud AI platforms
Location / logistics
- Remote (East Coast preferred; ideally near Connecticut)
- Must be able to visit the client location as needed
