JavaScript Developer

Role Overview

Contract JavaScript Developer to modernize internal productivity and scheduling applications. The work involves replacing outdated ColdFusion systems with modern, efficient, user-friendly web applications and integrating them with supporting services.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders (department staff and IT teams) to gather and analyze requirements.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy modern web-based productivity and scheduling applications using JavaScript and front-end frameworks (e.g., React/Angular/Vue).
• Develop and integrate applications with back-end APIs, databases, and related services.
• Ensure performance, security, and scalability of delivered solutions.
• Write clean, well-documented, maintainable code following best practices.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Diagnose and resolve software defects promptly.
• Support migration of data and functionality from legacy ColdFusion applications to the new stack.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a JavaScript Developer with a strong portfolio of web application projects.
• Solid understanding of core JavaScript and modern ECMAScript.
• Experience with front-end frameworks/libraries: React, Angular, Vue.js, or modern vanilla JavaScript.
• Proficiency in HTML5 and CSS3.
• Experience with asynchronous programming and APIs (e.g., REST).
• Familiarity with version control systems, preferably Git.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively as a contractor.
• Proactive, detail-oriented work style.

Nice to Have

• Back-end JavaScript frameworks/runtimes: Node.js, Express.
• Database experience (e.g., MySQL).
• Testing frameworks: Jest, Mocha, Cypress.
• Knowledge of web security best practices.
• Agile development experience.
• Experience migrating legacy applications to modern technologies.
• Cloud familiarity (e.g., GCP).
• Willingness to learn the existing ColdFusion environment if needed.

Experience & Education

• 3–5 years of professional JavaScript development experience.
