Role Overview
Java Software Engineer (Hybrid)
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and develop high-performance Java applications using Spring and Spring Boot.
- Build and optimize event-driven, real-time systems with Apache Kafka and MQ.
- Develop, deploy, and manage microservices on Docker and Kubernetes platforms (including OpenShift).
- Engineer CI/CD pipelines using GitHub/GitHub Actions, Maven/Gradle, Artifactory, and enterprise DevOps tooling.
- Write clean, testable, production-grade code with JUnit and Mockito and automated testing frameworks.
- Deploy and manage applications on OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).
- Design high-performance data solutions using SingleStore (MemSQL), Redis, MS SQL, and DB2.
- Integrate with enterprise systems such as WebSphere and distributed systems.
- Implement observability and performance monitoring using ELK, Grafana, and telemetry tooling.
- Apply secure coding practices using Snyk, Aqua, and GitHub security scanning.
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, and cross-functional teams; participate in code reviews and mentor peers.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across the stack to ensure reliability, uptime, and performance.
- Work with enterprise automation/deployment tools including Stonebranch and UrbanCode Deploy (UCD).
- Apply deep knowledge of brokerage operations, market data, trade lifecycle, risk controls, and regulatory requirements to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years hands-on experience with Java, Spring, and Spring Boot delivering enterprise systems.
- Advanced expertise with Kafka (high-throughput streaming, scalable producers/consumers).
- Proven experience deploying/supporting applications on OpenShift or other Kubernetes platforms.
- Strong experience with SingleStore (MemSQL) or other distributed SQL databases.
- Hands-on experience with Redis, MS SQL, DB2, and high-performance data architectures.
- Proficiency with Linux and shell scripting; solid distributed systems fundamentals.
- Proficiency with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Maven, Gradle, Artifactory, and CI/CD best practices.
- Experience with Docker, WebSphere, and enterprise deployment pipelines (e.g., UCD).
- Familiarity with observability stacks like ELK and Grafana.
- Strongly preferred: financial services experience, especially brokerage/trading systems.
- Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills; ability to influence and lead technical discussions.
- Must be local to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis–St. Paul) or willing to relocate.
Nice to Have
- Python for automation or data processing.
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Exposure to regulatory frameworks, risk controls, or trade lifecycle workflows.
- Experience designing or modernizing microservices architectures.
- Experience with enterprise scheduling/automation tools like Stonebranch.
