Java Engineer

Role: Java Engineer (DHA EIDS Team)

Oddball is seeking a Java Engineer to build and maintain the backend services and integrations that power enterprise health data delivery across the Military Health System.

What you’ll be doing

• Design and develop backend services and APIs in Java (Java 11/17+) and .NET (ASP.NET Core / .NET 6+)
• Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices using Spring Boot and ASP.NET Core
• Work across the backend stack: business logic, data access, and API integrations
• Write clean, well-tested code using JUnit and test-driven development practices (including xUnit/NUnit)
• Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code or Cursor) while maintaining code quality and security
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Git and GitHub Actions (or similar)
• Participate in code reviews, technical design, and Agile ceremonies

What you’ll bring

• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong Java proficiency with modern Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, JPA/Hibernate)
• .NET experience: C#, ASP.NET Core, Web API development
• Proficiency with SQL and relational databases such as MS SQL Server or Oracle
• Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks
• Demonstrated experience using AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor
• Thrives in a remote, collaborative Agile environment and enjoys cross-functional work
• Clear communication in code reviews and cross-team planning

Nice to have

• Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS
• Understanding of federal security and compliance requirements
