About the role
Role: Java Engineer (DHA EIDS Team)
Oddball is seeking a Java Engineer to build and maintain the backend services and integrations that power enterprise health data delivery across the Military Health System.
What you’ll be doing
- Design and develop backend services and APIs in Java (Java 11/17+) and .NET (ASP.NET Core / .NET 6+)
- Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices using Spring Boot and ASP.NET Core
- Work across the backend stack: business logic, data access, and API integrations
- Write clean, well-tested code using JUnit and test-driven development practices (including xUnit/NUnit)
- Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code or Cursor) while maintaining code quality and security
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Git and GitHub Actions (or similar)
- Participate in code reviews, technical design, and Agile ceremonies
What you’ll bring
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong Java proficiency with modern Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, JPA/Hibernate)
- .NET experience: C#, ASP.NET Core, Web API development
- Proficiency with SQL and relational databases such as MS SQL Server or Oracle
- Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks
- Demonstrated experience using AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor
- Thrives in a remote, collaborative Agile environment and enjoys cross-functional work
- Clear communication in code reviews and cross-team planning
Nice to have
- Docker, Kubernetes, or AWS
- Understanding of federal security and compliance requirements

- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Some roles may require U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a federal background investigation and/or security clearance
