Java Developer

Role Overview

Xaxis Solutions is hiring a Java Developer for a 6-month engagement, with remote/hybrid work embedded in product teams. The role is focused on mid-to-senior Full Stack and Backend Engineering, collaborating closely with Product Owners and Engineering Managers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain applications using Java (Spring) for backend and React (or equivalent frameworks) for frontend.
• Design and contribute to system architecture discussions, ensuring scalability to support millions of customers.
• Work within a hybrid infrastructure, including:
  • IBM WebSphere (on-prem)
  • OCP / OpenShift on AWS (containerized)
• Partner with Engineering Managers and Product Owners to identify improvements and implement technical solutions.
• Communicate effectively across teams, providing updates up to engineering and director levels.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in Java (Spring) and backend services.
• Full-stack experience, especially React (preferred).
• Solid understanding of AWS and containerization (OpenShift/OCP, Kubernetes).
• Experience with hybrid environments (on-prem WebSphere + cloud-native apps).
• Background in financial services / fintech / banking.
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices.

Engagement Model

• Initially staff augmentation (individual engineers embedded in product teams).
• Possible transition to a "team-in-a-box" / managed service model with defined deliverables.

Work Location

• US-based remote/hybrid, with potential advantages for candidates based in Chicago.
