Java Developer

Role Overview

Marfeel is hiring a Java Developer to join a small, high-ownership engineering team. You’ll work on new product initiatives, building new backend services and features while also navigating existing codebases.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend features end-to-end: design, build, ship, run, and fix in production
• Work on systems with high concurrency and impact across millions of users
• Own backend architecture decisions and collaborate closely with product and data
• Use and extend AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) as a core part of your workflow
• Build with modern backend and platform technologies, including microservices, automated delivery, and observability-minded deployments
• Operate in an agile environment with weekly sprints and iterative development
• Step outside backend when needed to support delivery

Requirements

• Strong ownership mindset: debug production issues yourself and escalate with clear context
• Deep understanding of reactive execution: non-blocking I/O, backpressure, and appropriate use of reactive systems
• Deep knowledge of Java and parallel code execution
• Strong experience with Spring:
  • Spring IoC, Spring MVC, Spring WebFlux, Spring Data, R2DBC
• Solid web stack understanding for building software at scale
• OO principles, design patterns, and clean code practices
• Iterative development mindset
• Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases

Nice to Have

• Deploying large applications and handling associated challenges
• Microservices with Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with Nginx or Tomcat
• MongoDB
• Spring Security
• Experience with ClickHouse or other OLAP stores
