Java Developer II - 100% remote

Role Overview

Java Developer II (Enterprise Applications Engineer II) for the Banner Student Information System (SIS) team at MCW. You will design, develop, test, integrate, deploy, and support scalable, API-first Java solutions that extend and integrate with enterprise platforms in support of the education mission. This role is 100% remote and must be performed within one of MCW’s registered payroll states.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable API-first solutions extending/integrating with enterprise platforms.
• Build and manage RESTful and SOAP-based APIs for secure, reliable data exchange.
• Develop Java-based applications and services using modern frameworks and design patterns.
• Use AI-assisted development practices (e.g., AI tools for code generation, testing, documentation, and analysis) while following enterprise standards and security practices.
• Create detailed specifications aligned with the organization’s IS development methodology.
• Analyze and modify existing business applications/processes; recommend improvements.
• Diagnose and resolve issues during maintenance and production support.
• Collaborate with client and technical teams to define requirements and deliver solutions.
• Review new designs to ensure alignment with business objectives and technical standards.
• Manage multiple concurrent requests and prioritize effectively.
• Coordinate with business/management teams to plan work, processes, and timelines for support and upgrades.
• Partner with infrastructure and security teams for authentication/authorization and compliance (e.g., SSO/SAML/OAuth), plus data protection.

Requirements

• 5+ years hands-on experience as a Java developer in a Banner Student Information System environment.
• Strong experience building Java applications using frameworks such as Spring and Groovy/Grails (Banner extensibility model).
• Demonstrated experience with API and web services integrations (REST/SOAP) and relevant middleware.
• Experience with development tools: IntelliJ/Eclipse, Git, and SQL Developer.
• Excellent communication skills (written, oral, and consultative service orientation).
• Ability to translate concepts into solutions with business users.
• Ability to manage multiple deliverables in a full lifecycle environment, including production support.
